Solar Pool Heating

Solar pool heaters are in trend these days.  You can significantly reduce swimming pool heating costs by installing a solar pool heater. They’re cost competitive with both gas and heat pump pool heaters, and they have very low annual operating costs. Actually, solar pool heating is the most cost-effective use of solar energy in many climates.

Over the years there are many possible issue with solar pool heaters found. And while they are generally reliable and durable, like most things, they can encounter problems. Here are the most common solar pool heater issues.

  • Leaking
  • Matting is lifting
  • Storm-damaged systems

Often leaks aren’t noticed until the system is turned back on after being dormant for a period over winter. Leaking parts can usually be fixed, but are more difficult and costly if they have been there for a long time. Wild weather and big winds can cause the matting of your solar pool heater to lift from its secured position on your roof. If left for a long period of time, debris can accumulate under the matting leading to further problems.

An annual service doesn’t take very long. Many issues that are discovered during a routine annual inspection can be fixed on the spot. However, if larger issues are found—such as faulty or broken parts—this may take a little longer to resolve. Sometimes it can take a few days to organize the right parts or repairs. It is suggested to book in annual service during winter, when the pool is not likely to be in use or high demand.
